Oncology Program – cancer treatment programs are available in Cuba for medical tourism patients.
Cuba is well known for its cutting edge treatment of lung cancer and advances in cancer vaccines currently being tested in the United States at the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY .
Available Cancer Treatment Programs:
- Lung cancer therapy with the CIMAVAX EFG vaccine
- VAXIRA Lung Cancer Therapy

The patient is evaluated by multidisciplinary teams composed of internists, radiologists, pathologists, hematologists, surgeons, among others, overseen by a clinical oncologist with the responsibility to establish the optimal treatment according to the diagnosis.
A medical tourism patient must remain in a specialized clinic for several days and needs to return to Cuba three to four times for followup treatments.
This program was developed by the National Institute of Oncology and Radiobiology (INOR), in La Pradera International Health Center, supported with the contribution of Cuban scientists from the Center of Molecular Immunology (CIM), who have developed several therapeutic vaccines with monoclonal antibodies of proven efficiency in treating certain types of tumors such as: lung, head and neck, and some brain.
The program includes the evaluation and treatment of lung cancer with the Cuban-made therapeutic vaccines CimaVax-EGF and Vaxira. The program aims to prolong the patient’s life and quality of life by reducing lung cancer to a controllable chronic inflammatory disease.
The Cancer Treatment program is delivered in two phases, an induction phase of one dose every two weeks for a total of five doses, followed by a Maintenance phase.
